Breakout Session

The VALID Project: Sharing the Common; Enabling the Unique

Track: Learning, Teaching and Library

Breakout Session IV
Thurs 4:40 pm – 5:40 pm

Abstract
The NJ academic library consortium, VALE, has embarked on a major initiative to adopt a shared library automation and bibliographic infrastructure. Bringing the existing resources of VALE’s organization, governance, and committee structure to bear on the VALID project, we hope to address these problems:

VALE libraries license, fund and operate individual vendor-supplied integrated library systems. A single, statewide system will remove these silos.

VALE libraries maintain 52 unconnected databases. We will unify these, creating a single, shared database.
In doing this, VALID will create and promote a more vibrant, effective and efficient academic research environment in New Jersey.
