Breakout Session

Using Cloud-based tools such as Microsoft Skydrive to create interactive reading activities in a community college ESL classroom

Track: Learning, Teaching and Library

Breakout Session VI
Fri 9:20 am – 10:15 am

Abstract
Most colleges offer a wide variety of cloud based tools, such as Microsoft Skydrive, which can be accessed through smartphones, iPads, and computers. These tools can be used effectively to foster collaborative learning in second language classrooms.
In an ESL reading course, students were able to work independently and in groups on vocabulary and other reading activities using files stored on Skydrive. Though much of their reading material was challenging, these activities helped students to develop a deeper understanding of its content. They also became more comfortable and creative in using Cloud services for class-related activities.
