Abstract:
Student engagement and supporting instruction with technology is an ongoing challenge. In 2012 , The College of New Jersey decided to move from a 12 year old home grown Learning Management System to Instructure’s Canvas to gain an advantage when faced with these challenges.
This presentation will take you through TCNJ’s journey from selection to implementation, while highlighting the strengths seen in Canvas and exploring some of the key challenges faced along the way.

Bio / Expertise:
Ryan Gladysiewicz is the assistant director for Instructional Technology Services at TCNJ. Ryan oversees TCNJ’s instructional technology group which provides faculty support for technology in teaching and learning and management of the two learning management systems. He most recently adjuncts for the School of Business, teaching Information Concepts and Database Management Systems, and is an active member in the staff senate and the teaching and learning center program council. He enjoys working with others on technology and exploring the many ways it can be leveraged to meet institutional goals or just to improve everyday life.


Valerian Anderson

Bio / Expertise:
Valerian Anderson holds the position of Web Application Developer in the Instructional Technology Services department at the College of New Jersey. He manages web-based curriculum development projects, writes web applications, and provides support and training for faculty in the use of the learning management system and other course relevant technologies. His prior experience includes roles as a higher education information technology director, strategic planner, and teacher. He holds a Master’s degree in computer science from Kent State University.
