Faculty Tested, Middle States Approved: Online Assessment of Student Achievement at Ocean County College Drives Classroom Change

Abstract
Ocean County College received strong commendations from its decennial 2014 visiting Middle States team, with encouragement to leverage the achievements in online student learning assessment for the benefit of traditional classroom based student learning experiences. A project that is now currently underway.

Please join Ocean County College in this interactive exploration of 21st online learning assessment best practices. Participants will learn how online assessment at Ocean County College works, who is involved, what efforts were needed and what obstacles were overcome to achieve its current success and bolster future widespread use of these processes.

 

Harmon, Jeff        

Bio
Jeff S. Harmon presently serves as the Director of e-Learning at Ocean County College where he manages the operations of distance learning initiatives.  In addition to these duties, Jeff is serving an interim appointment as Special Assistant to the President for Institutional Quality and Accreditation Liaison Officer for Middle States. He is also a lecturer at Ocean County College and Associate Professor of Business at Amridge University.  Jeff currently serves as public member/vice chair on the specialized accreditation board of the Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation (COMTA). In his past roles, he has directed the efforts of a USDE recognized accrediting agency and served as a private educational consultant to several accrediting agencies in the areas of standards revision and outcomes assessment. While working for a for-profit he assisted over 90 institutions of higher education in their efforts at designing, implementing, and maintaining institution-wide learning outcomes assessment and institutional effectiveness systems.

He is currently a doctoral candidate at Rowan University, pursuing a degree in the area of educational leadership.
